    Job DescriptionWorking location: NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex - Virginia Beach\\The Team Leader Grounds is responsible for maintaining grounds on industrial, commercial, or public property such as buildings, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields, and repair structures and equipment.  This individual ensures day-to-day production schedules and operations of the federal site grounds maintenance contract are met; and, assists in managing department purchasing and budget by ensuring minimum waste of equipment, products, and materials assigned to crew.
    Key ResponsibilitiesThis position provides technical and procedural guidance to a labor crew of three to eight laborers.\Cutting grass, using walk-behind type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs).\Trimming hedges and edging around walks, plant beds, and other areas designated within the contract statement of work using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.\Spraying lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide under the training of an authorized licensed supervisor.\Operating a spin trimmer (commonly known as a "weed eater").\Pruning shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools.\Planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Cultivating and mulching planting beds.\Watering lawn and shrubs during dry periods using a hose or activating sprinkler system.\Picking up and burning or carting away leaves, paper, or other litter.\Removing snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots using shovel and snowblower.\Spreading salt on walkways and other areas.\Repairing and painting fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings.\Assisting in repairs of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment.\May clean comfort stations, office, and workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, blowing, washing, mopping, and polishing.\Assures appropriate conduct and decorum as dictated by Didlake policy and procedure.\Completes required paperwork and/or documentation.\Completes and maintains all Didlake required training.\Projects a positive and professional image to the public, co-workers, and Didlake clients.\If required, drive a company vehicle to transport equipment, material, and personnel to assigned workstations.

    Skills and ExperienceEducation: High School diploma/GED plus two (2) years experience in the grounds maintenance profession and one (1) year experience as a Crew Leader for a commercial landscape or grounds maintenance contractor.\\Skills and Abilities: Possess the ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate credentials/background check as required by the contract.\Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures and standard operating instructions. Must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact with, train, and resolve the personnel issues of people with disabilities.\Must be able to learn the proper use and operator maintenance of routine grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools.\Access to the work site for this position will require a valid Real ID. \Have a valid driver's license and be insurable under Didlake's automobile policy. Requirements include but are not limited to a minimum of 3 years of licensed driving and being at least 25 years old.
