    Job DescriptionHampton Roads Contracting, Inc. is a General Contractor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. HRC has been in business since 1983, primarily performing projects of varying scope in industrial environments such as Newport News Shipbuilding, the largest shipbuilding organization in the world. It is the owners’ goal to employ and develop only the best of employees.
    Key ResponsibilitiesThe Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment to the quality and safety standards established by Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc. Additionally, some manual and semi-skilled labor and other assignments may be required. Essential functions include but are not limited to:\\Inspect equipment/machinery for safe day-to-day operation and for general maintenance needs.\Clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by management and company policies and procedures.\Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, excavators, aerial equipment, and other heavy construction/maintenance equipment.\Perform excavating and grading.\Interact with construction general laborers and/or crew members who are facilitating alignment, movement, and adjustment of the equipment to complete the specifications for the construction project.\Execute daily work instructions received from supervisor in a timely manner.

    Skills and ExperienceAbility to read and comprehend construction plans.\5-10 years of direct experience operating heavy equipment.\Ability to stand for long periods.\Ability to lift heavy materials and work long hours.\Significant knowledge in the safe practices of operating heavy equipment.\Excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude and demeanor.\Ability to set up and operate a site level.
