The Construction Maintenance Worker in the Parks and Recreation Department plays an important role in the operations of City parks and park facilities. This position is responsible for helping to maintain the beauty of the City whether it is maintaining our Right of Ways, Parks landscaping and mowing, tree maintenance or general custodial. Duties include mowing, weed eating, edging, landscaping, assisting with tree removal and collecting and disposing of trash, fallen tree debris and litter, with the opportunity to learn how to use a variety of hand tools and equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, trimmers and more! Construction Maintenance Workers play a critical role inspecting parks for maintenance and safety concerns, while taking action to ensure a resolution of those issues. You will also be the main point of contact with the public and will respond to general questions and inquiries. In addition to your daily responsibilities, there are some special occasions where this position will assist with set-up and tear-down of special events. \\How much money can I make? The hourly rate for this position begins at $16.35 per hour. The hourly rate is competitive based on experience. \\What are the qualifications for this position? Requires a high school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition to the education and experience qualifications, a satisfactory background check to include a sex offender registry check, pre-employment medical examination will be required. This position may also require a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. \\Why should I work for the City of Newport News?
